BROOKLYN MAN ALLEGEDLY OPENS FIRE ON OFFICERS AFTER 911 CALL FROM APARTMENT BROOKLYN, NEW YORK: Police responded to an apartment in Prospect Lefferts Gardens after a man reportedly called 911 from a closet, saying his roommate had shot him in both legs. As officers approached the apartment, the suspect reportedly emerged wearing a blanket over his shoulders. During a conversation with officers, police said he pulled a .38-caliber revolver from beneath the blanket and pointed it toward them. Officers repeatedly ordered him to drop the weapon. Police said the suspect instead fired three shots at officers from approximately 10 feet away. One bullet reportedly grazed an officer’s bullet-resistant vest, striking his body-worn camera, while another grazed a second officer’s shin. Both officers were taken to the hospital and were reported to be in stable condition. Police said the suspect then retreated into the apartment, barricaded himself inside and took a hostage. After approximately an hour, hostage negotiators reportedly persuaded the suspect to surrender. 44-year-old Ridwan Abdul Rashid was taken into custody.

If you encounter them: • Stay calm and do not run. • Give them plenty of space and slowly back away. • Never approach the cubs — even for a photo. • Keep dogs leashed and under control. • Don’t climb a tree; black bears and cubs can climb extremely well. • If the bear changes behavior because of you, you’re already too close. • Carry bear spray where bears are present — and keep it accessible, not buried in your backpack. A mother bear isn’t something to panic about. But she is something to respect. The best wildlife encounter is one where both you and the animal get to walk away safely. If true, this begs the question: what else is going on in the land of Oz that we don’t know about The next thing I need to address is the color of the aggressor. Blue morph crayfish are anything but run of the mill (unless of course you’re in Florida – there is a native species that is predominantly blue in color) but the intense colors in this clip might make you feel like you’re watching someone else’s fever dream. As for why, who knows. Basically if an animal presents as a certain color and has survived to adulthood, it’s fairly safe to assume that its limited edition pigment hasn’t made life harder for the animal, so it’s all water under a bridge somewhere. It is just cool to see them actively hunting, considering they are known for eating plant matter and other edible river debris. This frog represents a substantial upgrade for the crayfish and a valuable nutritional opportunity, especially considering the energy a larger, more substantial prey item can provide when compared to their usual diet.
