Chicago Illinois State Police and Chicago police investigated a series of incidents that ended in a fatal police shooting in Humboldt Park. Authorities said the investigation began after reports of shots fired involving a white Mercedes on the expressway earlier in the day. Police later connected the vehicle to 42 year old Derek Jordan. Investigators said officers attempted to stop the Mercedes near Homan Avenue, but the driver fled, leading to a short chase through Humboldt Park. Authorities said the Mercedes struck a pedestrian before crashing near a CTA bus and several other vehicles in an alley. Police said officers surrounded the vehicle and repeatedly ordered the driver to exit. COPA footage later showed officers around the vehicle moments before shots were fired through the passenger side window. Jordan was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police said a firearm was recovered from inside the Mercedes. Authorities have not publicly stated that the weapon was fired during the encounter. The pedestrian injured during the pursuit was reported in non life threatening condition.
