Vancouver officer shoots knife-wielding burglar who ignored commands and ran from police On May 26, 2026, Vancouver police responded to a 911 call about an in-progress residential burglary. The homeowner woke up to someone smashing her windows and fled to her car. When officers arrived, they saw a man armed with a knife walking toward a neighbor in a driveway. The man ignored multiple commands to drop the weapon and took off running through a yard. Officer Alexander Zaferis fired four rounds, striking the suspect once in the lower back. Officers immediately rendered first aid. The suspect was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
