A 20-year-old man died from burns, allegedly self-inflicted, covering 95% of his body in the Cordoba department of Marcos Juárez. His family reported an alleged attack by his girlfriend. The victim, identified as Isaías Barrera, died Monday night at the Burn Institute in the city of Cordoba, following the incident that occurred Saturday at a residence on Zeballos Street, number 1200, according to local media. He was initially taken to the Abel Ayerza Hospital in Marcos Juárez, but due to the severity of his injuries, he was transferred to the Institute. Family and friends of the young man marched to demand justice and stated that the incident was an assault. His mother maintained that he was set on fire, while a neighbor claimed that Isaías’s girlfriend threw a jerrycan of fuel at him while lighting a cigarette. The witness’s account corroborated messages from a WhatsApp conversation: “They were fighting. He was smoking a joint, and the girl threw a gasoline can on him, and he caught fire.” Family members also stated that Barrera had filed three reports for separate incidents of gender-based violence and demanded the arrest of his partner, whose initials are S.S. The Marcos Juárez Prosecutor’s Office has classified the case as aggravated assault, while investigators are conducting forensic examinations, analyzing security camera footage, and taking statements to clarify the incident. The young man was laid to rest in La Piedad Cemetery in Villa María, his hometown.

La víctima, identificada como Isaías Barrera, falleció el lunes por la noche en el Instituto del Quemado de la ciudad de Córdoba, tras el hecho ocurrido el sábado en un domicilio de la calle Zeballos al 1200, según informaron medios locales. En primera instancia lo derivaron al Hospital Abel Ayerza de Marcos Juárez, pero debido a la gravedad de las heridas fue trasladado al segundo sanatorio. Familiares y amigos del muchacho marcharon para reclamar justicia y consignaron que el hecho se trató de una agresión. La madre sostuvo que “fue prendido fuego”, al tiempo que un vecino afirmó que la pareja de Isaías le arrojó un bidón con combustible mientras encendía un cigarrillo. La versión del testigo coincidiría con los mensajes de una conversación entablada en WhatsApp: “Estaban peleando. Él estaba prendiéndose un porro y la chica le tiró un bidón de nafta y se prendió fuego”. Asimismo, los familiares señalaron que Barrera radicó tres denuncias por distintos episodios de violencia de género y exigieron la detención de su pareja, cuyas iniciales son S.S. La Fiscalía de Instrucción de Marcos Juárez caratuló el caso como lesiones graves, mientras que personal de Investigaciones lleva a cabo pericias, analiza cámaras de seguridad y toma testimonios a fin de esclarecer el suceso. El joven recibió el último adiós y fue enterrado en el cementerio La Piedad, en la ciudad de Villa María, de la que era oriundo.
