Officers with the Lauderdale County Drug Task Force executed a search warrant on April 22 in the 200 block of North Locus Street in Florence, Alabama, alongside the Florence-Lauderdale SWAT team and the Florence Police Department K-9 Unit. During the operation, 46-year-old David Culliver of Sheffield arrived on scene but was not part of the investigation and inserted himself into the situation. According to police, he became belligerent, yelled at officers, and stepped into an active roadway with traffic. Despite multiple commands to get out of the roadway, he continued disrupting traffic. Officers then informed Culliver he was under arrest. When they attempted to place him in handcuffs, he pulled away and resisted multiple officers, escalating into a physical struggle. A K-9 was deployed to assist in gaining control, and during the fight on the ground, Culliver grabbed the dog and bit it. Officers ultimately regained control and took him into custody. He was charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, public intoxication, and interfering with a police dog. Credit: WFLA
