June 4, 2026, at approximately 9:50 p.m., West Chester Township police responded to an apartment complex on Zinnia Court after a neighbor called 911 reporting a woman screaming for help during what sounded like a violent domestic disturbance. The caller told dispatchers she could hear the woman being assaulted and feared for her life. Officers arrived and attempted to contact the occupants, but the door was not opened. After speaking with the woman by phone and receiving confirmation that she needed assistance, officers forced entry and conducted a protective search of the apartment. They ultimately located 39-year-old Lorenzo Miller and a woman inside an upstairs bathroom. According to police and body-worn camera footage, Miller was holding a knife to the woman’s throat and warned officers not to approach. The woman could be heard screaming for help. Officers repeatedly ordered Miller to release her before entering the bathroom. An officer then fired a single round, fatally striking Miller and ending the threat. The woman, who had multiple visible injuries, was transported to a local hospital for treatment and later released. No officers sustained serious injuries. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is conducting an independent investigation into the shooting, and the involved officers were placed on administrative leave in accordance with department policy.
