Harris County, Texas, on June 29, 2026, a suspect accused of aggravated assault with a pitchfork was shot by a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper during a multi-county vehicle pursuit that ended in Leon County. Around 7 a.m. that morning, Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to multiple 911 calls about reckless driving in the 23200 block of the North Freeway service road in Spring. A man reported that he had been driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck in heavy traffic on Interstate 45 near the North Loop when an unidentified suspect armed with a pitchfork climbed into the bed of the truck, broke the rear window, entered the cab, and forced the driver out before driving away with the vehicle. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The pursuit continued northbound on IH-45. Authorities stated the suspect was also accused of aggravated robbery in Walker County and rammed a DPS vehicle during the chase in that county. The pursuit passed through Madison County before entering Leon County. It ended near mile marker 163 northbound on IH-45 in Leon County. During the incident in Leon County, a DPS trooper shot the suspect. The suspect was airlifted by medical helicopter to Scott & White Medical Center–Temple in critical condition. No DPS troopers or other law enforcement officers were injured. The Texas Rangers are leading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting. The Leon County Sheriff’s Office received the report of the pursuit entering its jurisdiction from Madison County. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office handled the initial carjacking report.
