On January 19, 2026, Baltimore PD officers responded to an apartment complex in the 1100 block of Park Avenue for multiple calls, including a welfare check, a disorderly person, and a report of an armed individual. Officers arrived to find residents outside after a fire alarm was pulled. Inside the building, an officer encountered 48-year-old Autumn Elizabeth Denny screaming and holding a large knife. After the officer identified himself, Denny ran into an apartment. Officers observed blood in the hallway and attempted to make entry while additional units arrived and tried to de-escalate from outside the door. Denny later exited the apartment holding a knife and an electrical stun stick and refused commands to drop the weapons. Officers deployed tasers, which were ineffective. An officer then fired their service weapon, striking Denny. She continued to resist until eventually dropping both weapons, allowing officers to take her into custody. Denny was transported to a hospital with two gunshot wounds and is facing assault and weapons charges.
