🎥 + 💭: @matthewunderwater “I had never seen anything remotely close to this. It is said that some marine mammals may actually get “high” from chewing on pufferfish 🐡 When threatened, a puffer fish inflates, and its body carries tetrodotoxin, a toxin that can change an animal’s behavior once it bites down. For humans, tetrodotoxin can be more lethal than cyanide. On our expedition to La Paz, Baja California Sur, the sea lions of Los Islotes showed us something none of us had seen before. For 30 minutes we watched, half amazed and half horrified, as they chased a black guineafowl pufferfish, hauled it to the surface like a balloon, let it slip back down to the rocks, then did it all over again.”
