Yesterday, I was running in Fish Creek with my dog Cooper. He stopped for a sniff and I checked my phone, and when I looked up there was a coyote stalking towards us out of the bushes less than 10 steps away. I yelled to scare him off but he didn’t even flinch. There was no one else around, and as he made a move towards Cooper I thought to activate my smart glasses in case of an attack. When yelling didn’t work, I threw a rock at him, and finally picked up a stick and advanced on him. Only then did he retreat back into the trees, but continued to follow us for several minutes. I’m not sure if this coyote was predatory or simply territorial, but he was definitely bold and completely undeterred by my yelling. These glasses shoot in a wide angle so it felt a lot closer than it looks here. And Cooper seemed to have no sense of the danger either – he just thought he’d met a new friend. I think I’ll start carrying bear spray in the west end of Fish Creek, or at least a bigger stick! @beckler89
