Yes, he’s peeing on himself. And he’s doing it on purpose. During the rut, bull elk urinate onto the ground and wallow in it, soaking their belly, neck and mane with their own urine and scent. It’s part of advertising themselves to cows and rival bulls. The strong scent communicates information about the bull and helps announce his presence during the breeding season. Not exactly cologne by our standards. But apparently it works. 😂
