MINNEAPOLIS OFFICERS COME UNDER FIRE WHILE RESPONDING TO A SHOOTING The officers were moving through a hallway while responding to a shooting that left two victims dead and several others injured. As they advanced toward an open hallway, the lead officer spotted a wounded person on the ground. The shooter emerges from around the corner and opened fire on the officers. What training points can we take away from this incident? Backstory: On September 2, 2026, Minneapolis Police responded to the Shoreline Plaza apartments after 35-year-old Carlton Johnson allegedly shot the mother of his child during a custody exchange, wounded two building employees and traveled to the ninth floor, where he fatally shot two residents. As officers searched the ninth floor and approached a wounded victim, Johnson emerged from around a corner and opened fire. Officers Joseph Michnowski and Yahye Mahmed Ahmed were struck before police returned fire, killing Johnson. In total, two residents were killed and five people (including the two officers) were wounded. The child involved in the custody exchange was not physically injured. Authorities said Johnson had previously threatened residents and was facing eviction from the building.
