On April 7, 2025, Chicago police officers recognized Demond Williams, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant and reportedly armed with a knife. Williams allegedly fled into a hotel lobby, where officers gave repeated commands and deployed Tasers. Police said two officers opened fire after Williams remained armed and turned toward them. He was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
